Steering column groan from trim (1 Viewer)

This piece of trim is rubbing on the steering shaft and making a very unpleasant sound when i turn the wheel. I am tempted to just remove it but wanted to see if anyone has less destructive advice

Fixed it myself. You can see the trim is loose and not centered here.

I unscrewed the 10mm plastic nut and positioned it half an inch to the left where its supposed to be and pushed the nut down tight. All better!

It looks like the housing is cracked in two places under that fastener.

You are right it was but now that the washer is tight its holding in place just fine despite the crack. If it works its way back out ill buy a new piece.
