I had one place recommended to me-- I think it was called Benchworks. On indian school or thomas-- maybe 60th street area.

I think all they do is rebuild steering gears, but I could be wrong. Not toyota specific. I don't know about the OEM stuff.

Ok, just an update. Skeddy and I made the trip from Flagstaff to Phoenix yesterday with the steering box from my 80 in the trunk of the trusty Subaru.

We met Pat, the owner of Benchworks Steering Systems at about 10am, and by 3pm the Steering box was totally rebuilt and ready to go!

I can't say enough about the great customer service these guys provided! So if you need steering work done in Phoenix, give 'em a call! 480-946-3992

Hltoppr,
Do you mind sharing how much they charged? Also where did you find the OEM seal kit? I've got a leaky steering box that needs attention and have been considering replacing mine with one from http://www.buy-steering.com/ They had the lowest price I could find, but a bit to steep for now.
Thanks,
Brad

I got the OEM seal kit from CruiserDan here on IH8MUD. Highly recommend his service!

Benchworks charged me $249 ($260 with tax) and got it done in under 6 hours. They didn't need the factory seal kit, and don't credit for parts if you bring them in yourself, so I just had them replace everything with what they use. Pat, the owner, said that they only use OEM stuff anyway. No problems, as CDan is kind enough to let me return the factory kit.

I don't know about the online steering shops, but I feel really good about making a nice, relatively local contact which I will definitely use the next time I need steering work, and I have no doubt that Pat would stand by his work if anything were to go wrong.

So far, no leaks and the box works great!
