Getting the pig smog today, crossing my fingers that she will pass.

Young Padawan. As I was corrected very early in life on Mud, I shall now pass along the knowledge.

80 series wagons are NOT pigs. That kind phrase is reserved for the 55 series, or so I was informed years ago. :D

Any reason she shouldn't pass? Get her very warm, go with a full tank of gas to make the compression test on the fuel lines faster, etc. O2 sensors in good shape? Burning any oil? No - you should be just fine. I did have to replace my gas cap the last time my '94 was smogged. Been going to the same place for years, including issues with my MAF/head gasket so the guy knows me well. He slapped on one of his gas caps to 'pass' me on the promise I'd replace it. He had cheap aftermarket, but I wanted an OEM (anal I know).

Failed because of modified intake tube. Stupid visual inspection, everything else pass. Now have to spend money on OEM tube and get retest.

Now that's lame. Can anyone loan him a tube for the day to pass the test?

That sucks! If no leaks, who cares...except the PRK of course. New intake tube is less than $100 from mud suppliers like Cdan. Paying for a retest blows.

I pass two years ago with the same tube and now it doesn't pass, must be a Star station thing.

Different placed than two years ago or a tech in a bad mood? Where you forced to a star station? I know I'm labeled a gross polluter and have to go to a smog only station.

Yeah different place in two years and was forced to go to a Star station.

Last year I passed all the numbers with flying colors. But the gas cap and EGR modulator failed. After I replaced the parts, I had to go back to the smog station the next day to go through every single test ALLLLLLLLL over again instead of retesting just the gas cap and EGR modulator. Thank goodness for free retest.

Lucky for you that you got a free retest. This guy is giving me a $20 discount for retest.

Sucks bro. I took mine to a Star test facility yesterday.

Heard about these stations. What exactly is different, unique, harder(?) at a Star station than a regular smog or smog only facility?

I believe we all get sent to Star Station (formerly Gold Shield) facilities because our 80's are classified in the high emitter profile.

Star Stations can only test. No repairs.

This place is a test and repair station. I guess only certain place are qualified for the Star stuff.

Ok, I guess I'll have to amend my post to say

I believe, if you're in Los Angeles County, then you get sent to Star Station (formerly Gold Shield) facilities because our 80's are classified in the high emitter profile. Other counties may differ in policy.

May have to look it up. I've been going to Smog Only stations for years since I had an O2 sensor crap out early in the life of my '94 and been labeled a gross polluter ever since even though every other test since then has been super clean. No way off that designation I guess.

I have pass every PRK smog test that they threw at me before this one. I don't understand why I had to go to a Star station. I've read somewhere that if you failed a smog once, RPK will tag you and make you go to a Star station. Star is suppose to be stricter then regular smog, because our truck are categorize as gross polluter. The funny thing is I never failed a smog before.

Nope. I'm in LACO and just went to my neighborhood smog guy. LX passed, 60 didn't :meh:

I failed twice last year when I did my engine rebuild. Didn't have to go a star station.

This just makes me more confused about what or why I was slatted to go to a Star station only. California is one big confusing state. Then to be failed on something that I replace to prevent from messing up my MAF and breakage is really frustrating.
