anyone own an SST for doing the knuckle rebuild.. i just swaped to minitruck knuckles and different hysteer arms, and ive got gear oil dripping from the knuckles.. :frown:

i tried to eyeball it to get it centerd, Maybe somone has the correct tool for the job?

I just rebuilt the birfs on my 80 a few months ago - don't recall needing any SST other then the big socket for the axle nut thingy.

Sounds like a bad axle seal? Do you mean a seal driver? I think you should be able to find that at any auto parts store. I borrowed the one I used.

with a rebuild, you usualy put in the same amount of shims that came out.. Thats easy.

with mine, i put new knuckles on it, with hysteer arms, that could have different thicknesses cousing the location of the inner axle to be off center.. this couses premature failure of the inner seal.. atleast i think.. Maybe they went bad with the old knuckles, but i didint notice it till now..

the sst measures the distance to ensure that everthing is centerd. but i may be able to get it close by using a micrometer and some luck..

Ok, I get it. I saw the bit about the different knuckles and arms, but it just didn't register what that meant wrt the axle seals.
