Looking at getting a road bike to go along with my Mtb. A local shop has some used specialized bikes, the allez. Does anyone know anything about these bikes? From what I've read they seem like pretty good bikes. Anyone with first hand experience?

I have an 2005 Allez. I have put well over a 2000 miles on it and I would not call myself a roadie by any stretch, but this bike does just fine for me. Keep the drivetrain tuned and you will get many years of use out of it. I laid it down on a ride outside of Golden, CO and taco'd by wheels. Frame was fine, so I upgraded the wheels to a set of Mavics ksriums (sp? not the $800/set). I've climbed multiple mountain passes in Colorado with it and have bombed down one at 50+ mph. the bike did fine.

the carbon fork is of lower quality and I have picked up bad resonance on it multiple times at high speeds. That would be my only gripe with my Allez.

PS. Pro Challenge race over Indi pass yesterday was Freakin' awesome!!!!

Cool sounds like a decent bike to start out on.

I ride and race a 2006 Allez Elite. I am still happy with it after thousands of miles.

After plenty of riding, the machine-built rear wheel began to come out of true and out of round. I loosened and re-tensioned the spokes and re-trued the wheel. Otherwise, with good maintenance and replacing consumable parts, my bike still rides as good as it did when new.

Thanks for the info yal. I went to the local shop today and rented one and took it out for a while and loved it. Pretty sure i'll be getting one soon as long as i dont hear anything really bad about them.
