spacer lift

How does a spacer lift actually produce lift? Does it extend the strut or increase spring rate or compresion? Thanks this will answer a question between a fj60 fjc and a heep guy.
 
Depends on the spacer lift one is installing. Top loaded spacers, mounted above the strut "push" or lower the strut. Spacers that go under the top plate would compress the spring, extending the strut.

Neither are a good choice IMHO...
 
Any more thought? Lift suggestions for my friend?
 
If you are looking for suggestions, suggest ICON's on the high end, OME for a reasonable and very well made components. In order to give an effective recommendation, it is best to know what type of off-roading your friend is planning on as well as what other modifications are planned for the rig...
