Hey folks,

So I bought a 66' FJ40 back in July (it arrived the same day my son was born, it was a good day) from a fellow mudder and it is pretty good, but like all 40's needs some tlc and parts.

I am looking for a fiberglass cap (roof) for the hardtop, as it came with a square cut in it and a make shift patch which leaks all around until I start driving, when I come to a stop any water collected on the top pours down my back. Any help in finding a F/G cap would be great.

Also it needs the drivers side glass ( Window and wing window) if any of you have either...or hell maybe a full door with glass I would be happy to exchange for $$$.

I would like some advice as well, it came with 4" Skyjacker lift, but it sits about 1-2" lower in the back than front. I was thinking about replacing the shackles in all corners with stronger MAF 4+ anti-inversion units. The ones on there were made by the PO ( they are stock length) and are looking like they about to bend in half. I was wondering if I got 3/4" extended up front and 2" extended in the rear would this help level the cruiser up? or maybe 3" in back IDK?? and when I do this will I need to shim the front and rear? if so how much? Would I need to extend the rear drive shaft?

I'm totally new to this all, but am not afraid of wrenching, so any advice would be great. And of course I have money for any parts you all may have and not need.

Bah, almost forgot, if anyone has an early working gauge cluster, mainly with a working Speedo, I would love to buy it off yah!

Mine does the same thing and I don't have a hole cut in it. You're probably leaking at the rivets around the edges.

As far as the lift goes, you might also think about taking a leaf out of the front springs to lower it a bit - unless you really want to go higher. 3-4" over stock shackles are pretty dang long.

Sorry that was three-quarters of an inch over stock in front with maybe 2inches over in back to level it.... trying to get some pics... in the rain... And no the water is pouring in from the cut-out not the rivets. these photos should show the problems.

and closer....

Internal shot, notice the dark areas around the metal frame of the square, this is water entering the cab.

Shots of the shackles in front, i don't know if it is normal for them to be slanted over like this on level ground?

External shots showing how much lower it is in the rear.

Any advice would be great!

First, cool rig! Cool headliner too. :grinpimp:

You've convinced me. You do need a new cap. :D I also agree with your shackle plan. Find some stock length (shorter) ones for the front and some slightly longer ones for the rear.

Nice. I may do a shag headliner in my 40. Big Pimp'n.:grinpimp:

So I was thinking the other day, instead of finding a new cap, what if I replaced the patch with Plexiglas of some sort. I think it would be pretty cool, especially if i can get it sealed up and install a sort of sun-shade on the inside on rollers on the metal frame.

What do you guys think? Is it doable, or the most retarded idea you've ever heard of?
