Over the last 2 years I was frustrated with my PZJ70 overheating with the a/c turned on.

I tried a variety of things, spent a lot of time and money but ultimately the solution was very simple: thoroughly cleaning the condenser, sealing gaps between the fan shroud and radiator and refilling a/c gas.

In my defense, I had cleaned the condenser with a pressure washer in the past. However, this time I removed the front grille, straighted out all the bent cooling fins on the condenser, and used the highest pressure setting on the washer. I was amazed at the grime that came from the condenser.

There was also a gap of 1/2 inch between the top of the radiator and the fan shroud I've sealed that with tape.

I've removed and refilled the a/c gas. The result is that the compressor now cuts on and off at the desired thermostat setting. In the past, due to slightly less gas in the a/c system, the compressor never cut off and this I'm sure this exacerbated the problem.

The ambient temperature in my part of the world is around 25-35c. The temp gauge stays in the lower 1/4the part of the gauge even in stop and go traffic and traffic jams with the a/c on full blast.

In all this I'm curious to know if the a/c system in a Landcruiser is designed not to overheat the engine, even if run continuously, in an extremely hot environment with the compressor not cutting off.

Well if everything is in good shape, and I can only say this about DIESEL LANDCRUISERS, because my Gasser 1980 FJ 40 didnt have AC .
I have been in 40c hot weather in the Chilcotin with the AC on in my BJ 74, in my HJ 61 and in my Prado and with the AC running it will not overheat whether it is idling with the AC on FULL or at Full Load,
I will say this again IF EVERYTHING IS IN GOOD SHAPE !

Good Job on solving your problem
