I’m super excited!! The Jag is essentialy ready and I’m packing everything in. We pull out around 7am Saturday!! :steer:

My plans so all are aware. I will be coming in Thursday midday. Will be in the area on Wednesday but doing a little solo trip with a friend. See if you can find me! ;) Looking forward to meeting you all!!

Hey @Dumpolina @pappy anyone from High Desert Cruisers want to take a spontaneous adventure! I believe some spots have opened up for the SAS aug.7-11 It's going to be sweet!:steer: any takers?
Possibly... I’ve been following this, would like to get up that way but probably only able to make it for a day or two. I’ll see what I can get together.
Thanks for the heads up!

Looks like HDC club from Albuquerque are on their annual Ouray camping/wheeling trip right now! I should be more active.
I cannot make the HDC Ouray run so SAS May work!

We have a spot tues and wed night only booked, after that we'll either share a spot or camp in the forest, they allow 4 people in the tent sites.

I have a couple questions sorry if they have been answered already.

1. I see there are a couple of gas stations near the campsite, will a full tank be good for the trail rides? I know its a good idea to always have extra fuel with you but I am trying to avoid carrying it inside with me. I'm running a pretty stock rig so nowhere to carry fuel on it.

2. Local places to grab stuff like food? Or do we need to bring what we will eat for the week?

3. Most importantly, are we still planning to camp out in a national park and stargaze for the last night?

1.) The fuel station closest to Ouray is convenient. Ridgeway, Telluride and Silverton all have fuel stations and are usually the half way point on many runs. Extra gas is not necessary for myself. Just fill up the night before and you should be good.
2.) The small grocery market is well stocked with your usual staples. Ridgeway a few miles up the road has a market that is a little bigger. Both are reasonably priced also. Nothing extremely out of the norm for pricing.
3.) That is still the plan but I kept my reservation at KOA just in case.
All good questions.
The forcast for next week looks very nice. Expect cool to cold weather in the highest elevations. Layering clothes is key.
Pack a raincoat/ pancho because it will rain on and off and being cold and wet really makes for a bad day on the trail.

I don't remember ever having worries about needing gas, so all good there.
Ouray proper is pretty darn close and you can get little stuff there. Im packing food but I am sure I'll forget something. Makes a good excuse to pop into the Ouray Brewery. ;)

On that gas thing, I assume diesel is available locally? I know some smaller areas don’t have it.

I'll be leading an easier run over Ophir Pass to Telluride, with lunch at the Floradora Saloon. A bunch of us ate there at SAS #1 between Black Bear and Imogene Passes. I hope they still have the peach cider on tap that we had last year, it was great! Then we'll return along the scenic Last Dollar Road and over Dallas Divide to Ridgway and the KOA.

For those of you bringing children can you please pm me their ages? We are wanting to do something special for them with the raffle.
Thanks, Casey..
There will be 3 rigs from Alabama looking to share camping spaces.

It will be an honor to share. I hear saw major logs though. Bring some ear plugs.

Looking forward to caravaning together. See you in Denton at 10a.

@ceylonfj40nut I appreciate the offer but when Cimmaron dropped out he let me have his spot. So we should be good to go!

@POTATO LAUNCHER Will the Amarillo convoy be traveling the same route as last year, with a stop at the Taos LotaBurger for lunch on Monday? We'll be heading north on US 285 through Tres Piedras early that afternoon, so might be able to tag along from there until Monte Vista, where we'll turn north towards Saguache. If you let us know when you roll into Taos, we'd know to leave home then.

Our entourage of coolness will stay on Hwy 87 to I-25 and Raton Pass. We are meeting up with a couple of other guys in Woodland Park for the night then into Salida for lunch at the brewery that makes the FJ60 brand beer. Will stop and say hello to Brandon and crew @Classic Cruisers new world headquarters in Poncha Springs. Hoping to arrive in Ouray by late afternoon.

Well...we had a major set back yesterday. With the help of 2 friends, I muscled the "family" cage into my 40 for some final measuring and mock-up before final steps to weld seat belt tabs, media blast and primer. When all the footings are in place, the roll cage is off-center by a good 2 inches and the driver side door can't close. Kaaaahhnnnnnn!!!!

The back story is I ordered it several years ago and when it was received there was obvious damage to one of the footings (mounting plate at the bottom of the front leg). At the time, it had taken over 2 months from when I ordered to when it shipped. I got into a back and forth with Fed Ex and Man A Fre and I ultimately reached the conclusion that a local fabricator buddy of mine could fix the footing for $50 and less hassle to me than shipping it back and having to wait another 2 months or more. So I put it in the garage, life got in the way and it has been collecting dust. I realize now that the damage was more significant and getting fixed (if that is possible) is way beyond the scope of what I can do before we hit the road. Shame on me for not processing the damage claim at the time. So the original role bar is going back in today.

We convened a "family" meeting last night to discuss options and after discussing with our 3 kids my concerns about not having full coverage and 3 point seat belt protection in the back seat my two teenage daughters tactfully revealed that they were not that jazzed about making the trip this year anyway. My pride was a little hurt but it does create a solution. So now its just me and my 9 year old son.

Apologies for the long-winded story but wanted to close the loop on my prior posts regarding the family cage...(that may never be)

[The FZJ80 in the picture is my daily driver that was originally going to make this trip but for some early indications of a head gasket issue as mentioned in my prior post]

Looks like we'll be hitting US 50 just east of Gunnison before noon, so will be a couple hours ahead of you, paving the way into the San Juans. Say hello to Brandon for me.
