We definitely need CB’s to be a manditory requirement this year, would help a lot
I agree. I dusted off my 32-year-old Uniden CB (hadn't been used since 1986) and bought an inexpensive magnetic base antenna for this year's SAS. Worked well and I'm glad I had it.Very good point James. Simple communication makes trail runs more enjoyable.
I think @beno and I were the only two that communicated with HAM last year.Just found this thread. Interested in next year's event.
I would recommend getting your HAM license, and getting a $30 handheld unit over a CB. Much better iMHO. Most of our local club got their license after a couple days of studies.
I decided to take another incremental jump when shopping for a new head unit for my '86 FJ60 project vehicle - I bought a Pioneer unit with AM/FM, cassette, and CD!I think ham is a great option, if you have a ham radio feel free to use it. Most dont so CB is the next logical option. Someday I too will upgrade to this type of communication. For now I will stick with CB, cassette tapes and my Motorola brick phone.

Truth be known Im running a marine stereo in the 40 that is bluetooth, memory card and usb enabled. The 60 has a Pioneer unit that is single Din with no cd and is about half the typical depth. Very lightweight with satellite, usb, bluetooth with phone integration. I have about 400 hours of tunes on a thumbdrive for roadtrips.
I just dont communicate with a radio enough to see the need to upgrade. Maybe someday.
