This is a stupid question, but the only stupid question is one that remains unasked, right?

What's the collective name of the interior section that has:
  • nav screen (or audio system for the less-equipped like myself),
  • A/C vents,
  • climate controls,
  • hazard and CDL switches on driver's side,
  • blank panel on passenger's side, and,
  • wood (or simulated wood) trim encircling it all
It's between the steering wheel and the glove box, and above the ashtray, cigarette lighter, and extra 12V power outlet.

I'd normally call it the "Center Console," but when using the board's search function, I always get discussions of the section that has the gear shift, transfer case shift, seat heater buttons, cupholders, and storage bins.

So... any snappy answers to this stupid question? Thanks!

Cal

That section is called the dashboard, isn't it?

As one co-worker once said, "There is no stupid question. Just a lot of inquisitive idiots." jk......;)

Hah! Nice.

My definition of dashboard is the surface under the slope of the windshield, that cracks under the heat of the sun if exposed too much and/or too often.

Sincerely,
Inquisitive Idiot :D

I'm pretty sure the highlighted piece in this pix is called the "center dash"

Thanks Tech! I'll go with "center dash" then.
Adding a new thread shortly... .

My 1998 FSM calls this unit the "Center Cluster"

and the panel below it is the "Center Lower Cluster Finish Panel" that holds the "Front Ash Receptacle Box". :D

The FSM technical translators have a unique pattern of English.

What calbo calls the dashboard is the "instrument panel" but the gauge unit is a "combination meter".

I would say "center console" too, but looking it up in a "Visual Dictionary" they have actually put that sticker on the area around the gear-shift.
Maybe "Front center console" (or Upper...) and "Lower center console"? Nah, too complicated.

dashboard // n.
1 the surface below the windscreen of a motor vehicle or aircraft, containing instruments and controls.
2 hist. a board of wood or leather in front of a carriage, to keep out mud.

OE Term is...

OE manufacturers often use center cluster or center stack to describe this area
