I spoke with a yamaha dealer yesterday about the minis (I've a seven and five year old). He claims that they are essentialy the reason for the lead ban. They are so cheap and break so easily that the big dogs don't want them next to theirs. He said that regular kids bikes will be back shortly after the ink dries on the tariff tax bills that cut the cheap competition out of the loop.
Old vintage minis are under 2 bills. Food for thought.

your dealer sounds like a horse's ass. the lead ban has nothing to do with motorcycles. it was to deal with infant's toys and bikes got caught in it when it expanded to a universal ban on lead in items for kids.
the chinese bikes are increasingly good all the time, and most kid's bikes hardly see any hours on them anyway. and who cares if the "big dogs" don't want the chinese bikes aroundnot to mention, you cannot get a decent running vintage mini for under $200.
