Snorkel question

Those of you with snorkels do you face the top(the open part) so it is turned towards the back of the car during heavy rain and or dust? Down here we get some amazing down pours along with dust so thick that is about impossible to see. I noticed some other 4x4's around that have the inlet facing backwards......
 
I found that if I keep the ram head on forward in a heavy rain or snow, that there does seem to be some ingress of water into the air filter container. This water; however, drains out the bottom through the "tuna can."

That being said, I have decided to keep my pre-cleaner head on the snorkle during the winter and monsoon months.
