So I take my new to me 98, 3.4 4runner to the local Toyota specialist to get the timing belt , fuel filter and valve cover gaskets (leaking oil) changed..........and now when I cut the engine off I get a strong gasoline odor. This is my first tank of gas to go through too, but it seems to be getting horrible gas mileage. I'm going to follow up with the shop on Monday, but what do yall think they did?

It's leaking from the fuel filter would be my guess.
I would be careful to not set yourself on fire.

So was it the fuel filter, that was my guess too. And is that some king of subliminal message above?

Brand new OEM fuel filter had a crack where one of the welds was. As long as the engine was running, it was ok. As soon as you turned it off though, it lost pressure and started leaking.
