Well, I got the rear shocks in the other day and they fit fine, so finished welding in the bracket. Now I'm inside, drinking a beer and nursing the burns from welding upside down, laying on my back! :) If they work as good as they look, I'll be happy.

Thanks J Mack for pointing me towards Filthy Motor Sports, Ben is a nice guy to work with.

Yeah, nothing like the smell of burnt skin and hair. Leave it to BUD to take the pain away! :) Slag went right down between my sweat shirt and arm, couldn't get it out.

man I love the simplicity of a ...wait, what's all that stuff?

Oh Man, yeah! Guys think I'm kidding, but my Wife has her duffle bag packed and keeps looking at the road atlas. The Fall trip got cancelled, so now it looks like Spring we'll be going out to Moab. I'd like to make some of the different events and meet a lot of you guys along the way. BobM's for the Fall again, for sure!

If you get over to AZ, let me know - need to hook up with some new Cruiser pals since most of my old one sold em' off.

Scrapdaddy, you've gone a long way in combining function AND form. My pig has never really had a name, but when I look at yours and a couple others on the board, the name that comes to mind that seems the most fitting is, "Rat."

I've been in absentia for a while due to a combination of not having time to peruse the forums and the project stalling. Looks like you are still moving forward nicely. Those are some nice looking shocks. What made you go that route. I think I saw you mention Jmack steered you that way, what did he have to say about them. I've gone back and forth on shocks so I would certainly appreciate any input.

So how close do you think you are to getting her on the road?

Yeah, gotta watch J Mack, bad influence. :) I like the shocks because they're top quality and can be rebuilt or revalved if needed. I'm shooting for this coming Spring as the first road trip. Building the front shock mounts now, then just a few small things.

Been working on the front shock mounts, so thought I'd make my own type " skid plate " u bolt protectors. I've seen these for sale, but don't know who sells them. Started with 1/2" plate for the main plate, then bent up some 1/4" for the skid part. In the picture is some thick wall tubing I used in the center, hoping it won't collapse if running over a shopping cart.

Initially, I had the u bolt flip kit on, but ran into potential contact problems with the steering box when flexed. Until I have time to rework the front axle, I'll use these under the axle skid plates. At least I got to play with my new little lathe.

Yeah, I wanted the shock tucked up behind the axle, so it's a little protected. Got plenty of shock travel using the ford towers, so no problem losing some height.
