I know that Landruisers are not race cars, but I think I that I may have a problem or maybe not. It just seems like it takes forevever to accelerate to around 55 MPH or to around 2500 RPM. Someone had mentioned that a bad temp sensor (CAT) could cause this? your thoughts???

1985 FJ60, H55F, OME 3" lift, 33 MT's

elkiny
:doh:

A bad temperature sensor will not cause this. A plugged CAT or exhaust could cause loss of power at higher RPMs. If you feel you are losing power as the RPM's increase then the exhaust might be restricted assuming it runs fine otherwise (no missing, etc.).

The temperature sensor is used to protect the CAT from burning up if you are running rich. It stops the air injection system from injecting air into the exhaust in front of the CAT.

edit: if you are running 33" tires and the stock gears (3.73), you're gonna take longer to get up to speed than guys with a closer to stock overall gear ration. With 33" tires, people usually start thinking about new differential gears.

55 indicated on the speedo is 48 true?

Check that math. 55 IAS is prolly more like 64 TAS.

yup.. i typed it backwards.

8.64'- circumference in a 33" tire. it has 611.11 revs/mile
7.59'- circumference in a 29' tire. it has 695.65 revs/mile

so +12.15%mph is difference

Last time my rig was that slow on the go it was the fuel filter, (my EGR already bypassed) with the rotten fuel out there I'm only getting 18 months or so out of a filter before it goes south, (I drive less than 3k miles a year so mine sits up for weeks at a time which probably adds to my short life problem.

Also here in Oregon they have started putting at least 10% Ethanol in all the fuel. I noticed a drop in both MPG and "performance" (if that word can be applied to a Cruiser under any condition?)

Plugs, cap, rotor, wires, pcv, and air filter to start. If you're running the A440 auto trans do the Rodney Party trick, then the Rodney Flush. (Search those terms on how to do it.) Check the throttle cable adjustment and any other cable you have. I spent a good day doing all of this and loved the results on my FJ62!

All this can be done with simple hand tools. Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty, but before you do search the for sale section here or Fleabay for a Factory Service Manual. It's an invaluable reference!

I am having a similar experience and the boys at TLC discovered that I had a big crack in my intake manifold.

Ouch!!:crybaby::crybaby::crybaby:

That's how mine always was, and wouldn't "cruise" despite the name, it was always jumpy, so I rebuilt the carb and now I feel like I've got a brand new rig. I can hardly keep it from running away from me
