Hi all- Hope everybody's having a great winter!
Ok here's the deal- My transfer case is slipping every time I (come out) of 4WD
and go back to 2WD ? Its doing it a lot - On the highway its ok till I downshift then it slips and stars bucking again!

Any ideas
Joey

It woulld probably help if you were to give some details on which vehicle you are talking about. Auto tranny?

And what do you mean by "slipping"? Does it come out of gear? Or is it your clutch
that's slipping?

I am kinda unsure what you mean. Is the t-case popping out of 2wd or 4wd ? Or do you mean to say the clucth is slipping ?
Joe

Linkage problem, i.e., too much tension?

edit: or shift fork.

I'm confused as well. There's really no way for a t-case to "slip" is there? Unless you've got some mangled & missing teeth in there.

ok- here is what happens. When I put the truck in 4wd sometimes it stays in and sometimes it pops out ( its not the cluch) when it does stay in 4wd its fine but when I shift out back to 2wd it won't stay in - the transfer case or gear pops into neutral and grinds - I checked the motor mounts - there ok ! Bent linkage?

Ahh, so it's popping out of 2WD. Did you check the transmission/ t-case mount? Either you've got too much torque in the driveline, or yes, your linkage needs a looking at or adjustment. Usually this problem will manifest itself in 4WD, so it sounds like you're not getting full engage (or I guess disengage in this case) in 2WD.

ok I'll check the mounts and linkage! Beacuse it is happining in 4wd as well
and it looks like I have a lot of work ahead of me-
thanks everybody!!

Perhaps a bungee cord is in order.

<insert "redneck" smiley here>

You say Bungy I say bungee...as long as it works, keep going!
