The eight skylights are flat double pane tempered glass. The glass is clear and allows a bit too much sunlight in.
The other concern is the increase of hail storms that could result in damage.
The main frames are 3/16" x 1" 6061 that were hand formed to a slight arch. The dome design will provide some rigidity to the formed galvanized perforated (1/2" holes) sheet covering the skylights.

A simple bend jig was tacked to the table.

The 2" marks aid in consistency when hand bending.

The upright legs were drilled on the mill followed by a quick de-burr.

Next up was another simple jig for tig welding the frames.

A corner joint is simple clean and strong.

A shot of the perforated sheet used. The corners were folded back to keep from snagging and also affords rigidness.

A drill jig was also fabricated. This allows for drilling without having to measure each hole layout. The drill jig is unidirectional meaning it can be used for right and left hand layout. The two sets of holes you see are for two different size skylights (6-27' x 54" and 2- 27" x 27").
A side note. The skylight you see on the table was removed from the master closet when the roof was replaced this past March. I kept it with the intent of doing this project. This really saved time designing the shields and figuring the hole layout.

Using the drill jig made quick work of installation.
The first 7 completed. The design kept the shield 5" above the glass allowing access for cleaning

The last shield installed over the master bath.

Looking up from the kitchen the shield looks good and now blocking about 20% of sunlight.

A simple solution.
