I've sort of loosing my mind trying to figure out what is causing my troopy to shudder when I'm accelerating and decelerating on the highway. Mostly it occurs in 5th gear but it does show up in 4th as well.

Essentially I hit a spot in the throttle where if I'm putting my foot into it I feel a shudder in the peddle, and if I left off the throttle it goes through the exact same shudder. It's just a small window where if I push past it, it stops, and if I let the throttle off it stops.

I know that's vague. If anyone has any guesses I'd appreciate it.

My drive shaft has a little rotational play, see video below. Maybe this has something to do with it? Or is that a normal amount of play? I have no feel for it.

That's not play in the shaft. That's backlash in the axle splines + several gears in the diff + slop in the splines of the sliding yoke of the shaft + potentially wear in the UJs. To check for UJ play you need to grab the propeller shaft in one hand and the flange yoke on the other and twist them. Any visual play in the UJs means they are worn out IMO.

Thanks for the info. This is sort of what i was wondering, basically is this normal? sounds like it is somewhat normal. I'll go out and check the UJ like you described.

It looks normal, but there is no spec for total driveline slop.

Also, just because there is no visual wear on UJs does not mean they are good, it's just an easy way to condemn a bad one. They can still be rough or have a notch in, but to check this you need to remove the propeller shaft.
