I have a trailer that I built a fish house on, which was originally a camper frame. The frame is 7 feet wide and has the wheels tucked inside the trailer, which makes it somewhat unstable when driving. The original drop axle is only 4.5 feet long and I was thinking about buying a longer drop axle that was 7.5 feet long, but I was hoping to use the leaf spring mounts that are already in place. This would mean that there would be very long distance between the leafs and the actual hub faces. Can anyone tell me if they have done this, or why I shouldn't do this? If I were to purchase all new leafs and mounts they would have to attach to the wood frame that I built around the metal frame of the trailer and I just don't want to go down that road.

Thanks,

Mike
