Is there someone in the Birmingham, AL area know of a shop and/or mechanic with experience installing an OME lift and differential drop on a 100 that is trustworthy?

Would very much appreciate a recommendation before "just taking my chances".

Also, are there many others in the 55+ age group trying to complete their first childhood as myself.

Thanks for your input.

Jemsec,

First welcome to the board. Right now most of the club is either in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, so it would be great to get some members that are in their 50s.

I don't know from experience, but I do not think there are any shops in the area that have "experience" doing OME lifts. The lift should be simple enough for many shops or mechanics to do a good job.

On another note, we could set up a HAMM (help a member meeting) for your install. Usually, a little food and beer will bring out the masses (really just 3-4 of us) and we could help you install the lift and drop. Just a idea.

Here is a link to the installation of the drop: http://www.sleeoffroad.com/installation/UZJ100_diff_drop.pdf

For suspension work I would recomend Tire Engineers.
But I agree with Eric, it shouldn't be that hard and it would give you a chance to get to know your cruiser a little better.
I would be happy to help out if I can (we have a baby coming in june so my schedule is getting tight).

Your offer to assist is very generous and I don't quite know how to respond. Before deciding on the best route to take I have to make a decision about the best lift to install. I don't plan on installing much more than a lift and tires and the heavy lift would probally be a bad choice and will stay with the medium.
The next question is which one. Slee offers a 1.5" and a 2.5". I want a level ride and will use 285 75 16 tires. I am leaning towards the 1.5" and like a resonably firm ride. New Bilstein shocks are already intstalled and believe they will work ok with the 1.5" lift. Maybe.

Your suggestions and information about the various lifts would be a great help in making the best decision.

Thanks again for your kind offers and I may yet take advantage of your knowledge and experience.

If your offer turns out to be the best route to take there would be "good" steaks and "good" beer for all. No beer made for the masses. No cheap stuff for Landcruiser folks.

Thanks again.

I'd come up if it was a weekend day.
I helped "level" a hunnerd in Mississippi a few months ago.

Fixed it for you

everyone needs pictures don't they?
Sadly, i did lay under the wagon and turn wrenches. it's quite easy to turn those torsion bars on the hunnerd. Which is all you do up front... The springs in the rear are the same as the 80 springs... vi-ola! hunnerd lift!

I don't have any knowledge on the 100 series lifts, but I can share my experience with my 80. I originally bought OME heavy (850..I believe ) because I knew one day I was going to get an ARB and I didn't want to use spacers to level out the truck. I bought OME stock height (860...I believe ) for the rear because I wanted to reduce sagging, get a stiffer ride, still fit in my garage, and have a level sitting truck. Now two years later, I wanting to upgrade the rear to heavies. Not for lift, but after the addition of sliders, and the wishfulness for a rear bumper, I need heavies to level back out.

Just ordered ome torsion bars and 865 springs from 4X4connection.com and waiting on Bump it Off Road to get a diff drop ready. Will do most myself and have talked to Bryant at Southern Rubber, (former Landcruiser owner) about installing the torsion bars. Seemed to know what he was talking about. About $200.00. I'll see. Will use the Bilstein Shocks I put on about two months ago. Also found Nitto Terra Grapplers in 285-175-16 for $718.00 and Southern Rubber is part of Tire Buy.com. +$80.00 to $100.00 and they are the responsible seller and installer.

Any thoughts from you gurus?

Where were you able to get Nittos for $718? Cheapest I've been able to find them is $881 for 4.

Check this site. It's owned by the company were most independent dealers get theirs.

Buy Tires

Southern Rubber was totally agreeable and encourged me to order them and they would install and will honor any warranty. I asked what would happen if one was out of round and was told SR would handle the replacement. Only pay for installation. Talk to Bryant at SR and he will explain.

Price included delivery to the store within 1-3 days.

Try it.
