I have a 2003 tacoma 2.7 manual with ADD and a manual transfer case. Here is my problem, my manual transmission quit and I had a used one from a junkyard installed. My friend found me a low mileage one and it came with the transfer case attached. It supposedly came out of the same year tacoma (2003). The transmission shop installed the unit complete rather than separate and use my old transfer case that has 237,000 thousand miles on it. My old setup would shift on the fly. The new tranny/ t case combo will not. The mech looked at me like I was crazy when I told him that I should be able to shift into 4hi up to 50 mph. I figure they either didn't get everything hooked up correctly or they didn't swap over something that might of been different from my old tranny/ t case and or the new tranny/ t case is not the same as my old one.
Thanks for bearing with me this long, here is what I think I know...I can shift into 4wd while standing still, the 4wd does engage as I can feel the front wheels pull. The ADD does its job, I jacked up the front of the truck and shifted to 4hi with the engine off and turned the drivers side wheel by hand and the passenger side turned the opposite way. When I disengage the t case lever the and turn the drivers side wheel the passenger side does not turn so i assume the ADD is disengaged. I assume the T case actuator is working because the 4wd works.
So, I know a few tacomas came with manual hubs and no ADD. Do you know if the T case is different for those? Are there any switches or sensors that are different. Does the T case synchronize with the tranny and the diffs or should it be synchronized because it is all rolling the same speed?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
