Looking at my first chance to drive my '79 FJ40 in the winter. It was kept in Gloucester for many years so the salt has already hit a few spots hard. The main body was repainted a few years ago, so it doesn't look too bad if you squint.

Just wondering if I am completely insane to consider putting it on the road at this point? I'd love to get another 15 years out of her.

So how many of you just store come December?

If you would love to see her on the road for the next 15 years don't drive it in the salt. If you insist of driving in the salt oil the crap out of the frame and body. They sell a black oil in a spray can. It sprays on and stays like a light grease. There are also other mixtures you can spray on. Also check out Fluid Film.

I too would love to drive my 40 in the winter but its just not going to happen. I am in the process of building a cheap beater 40 which may see winter duty.

timely question -- hello, I'm Chris and am moving from NC to Reading, MA in the next couple of weeks. I was thinking the same thing about what was the best way to protect my Cruisers before or after I arrive in the area.

Besides the oiling talked about here, are there other options for my 100 series Land Cruisers? Like undercoat or something to that effect? thanks, looking forward to meeting some fellow cruiser heads up north!

Fluid Film is amazing stuff.

CorrosionX HD. Use it on all my vehicles. Works amazing. Buy it by the gallon and spray it with an electric sprayer.
