1992 Buick Regal with a 3.1 Liter motor.

I replaced the water pump no problem. Now how do I tighten the belt? I have loosened the tightener pulley and removed the belt OK. And when put back on the belt squeels.

The tightener pulley arm deal has nothing for me to grab onto and there is no room for my hands, a pinch bar or 2x4.

I can just get a large Crescent wrench on part of the pulley tightener arm but it slips off the piece as I attempt to tighten the adjuster pulley. The pully arm I am clamped on is cast and tapered. I know there must be a method. I just don't know what it is. Is there a custom tool that is inserted into the cast pulley arm? That is what it looks like to me.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

JB

You may have disasembled that tensioner which is not required. The tapered end that puts tention on the belt has a slot for a 1/2 in breaker bar. Makes it pretty easy to change out the belt.
