SEQUOIA NATIONAL FOREST TO HOLD PUBLIC WORKSHOPS
ON MOTORIZED TRAVEL MANAGEMENT
PORTERVILLE, CA… Sequoia National Forest (SQF) Supervisor Tina Terrell announced today her
intent to prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) for public wheeled motorized travel
management. This is the next step in the wheeled motorized vehicle route designation process with the
release of a proposed action and a notice of intent (NOI) to prepare the EIS. The NOI was published in
the Federal Register on June 15, 2007.
The EIS will focus on the prohibition of wheeled motorized vehicle travel off designated routes and
needed changes to the Sequoia transportation system, including the addition of some user-created routes
and other changes to existing motor vehicle restrictions on the Kern River Ranger District and a small
portion of the Hot Springs Ranger District.
Currently, the Forest Service is soliciting comments regarding this proposal. A copy of the NOI can be
downloaded from the Sequoia National Forest website at http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sequoia. If you have
any information the Forest Service may not be aware of concerning this proposal, or feel you have
concerns or comments regarding the potential effects of the actions proposed, please send these in
writing to Travel Management, Attn: Chris Sanders, 1839 S. Newcomb Street, Porterville, CA 93257.
Public comments on the proposed action will be accepted until July 16. A draft EIS is expected to be
available for public review in September 2007. A final EIS is expected to be completed by September
2008.
