So I have a dead stock 1979 JDM BJ44 that I love dearly but will likely need to sell (a tale of woe for another thread). In addressing some cosmetic stuff (I'm repainting the grill that got dusted during the previous owner's paint job) and the dreadful job the previous owner did on the soft top, I have two questions for the I8MUD borg mind!

1) I've looked it over fairly carefully but it doesn't seem obvious how the mesh grill is removed from behind the bezel. Before i start hacking at it, can someone tell me the secret?

2) It's unclear how the canvas in the rear doors comes out/off. I've removed the canvas panels and frame from the lower door but then how does the canvas come out of the frame?

Thanks in advance,
Evan

The grill can hinge forward after undoing 6 x 10mm bolts and completely removing two other 10mm bolts. If the hinge is rusted you may need to remove three 12mm bolts where it bolts to the chassis. The mesh grill has four 8mm bolts holding it on the front panel.
I'm guessing the upper frame would slide into the lower tailgate and bolt somewhere there.

OZCRuiser - thanks for the grill information and the picture! Very helpful! For the rear canvas doors and frame, I know how they go into the rear lower-metal doors (a few bolts that I've already removed). I've had them out for a week or two now and can't determine how the actual canvas comes out of the frame itself. No screws/bolts to be found. Wondering if it's just a pressure application. I've hesitated to apply force as I don't want to scratch/damage a relatively pristine survivor.
