i have tried every technique i can think of to search multiple words in succession and cannot get it to work. i've tried ", ', * and everything else i can think of. if anyone out there knows a trick to allow me to search, as an example 'rain x', without having search interpret it as a search for the keywords 'rain' and 'x' separately, i'd really appreciate it.

i searched for every permutation of 'search' related info before posting this, so no threadcats please.

Try using "rainx" as one word. Also open the search drop down menu and click on "advanced" and it will the give you choices of what forums you want to search. You can also try just the key words your looking for in the advanced mode. It really narrows it down for me instead of the basic search window. you'll get "too many options, narrow your search" or something like that.
Good luck and keep trying.

Well here JP, what would you like to know about rain-x? I have it on my front window and rarely use my wipers. My friends hate me because i dont use my wipers, it freaks them out that the water just beads up and rolls up the window. Only time i use my wipers is snowy conditions due to the crapload of salty water that sprays up.

1loud LX - Will rainX fix scratches in the film covering a laptop touch screen?

Sorry _JP_ got nothing for you. If the 100 users can't help ask for this to be moved to chat.

+1

Other options:

1. Try the word "hydrophobic" and you may get some hits.

2. Convince yourself you've looked hard enough, just ask the question, and risk getting flamed for it. :D

FWIW, I use Rain-X on all my car windows. Great stuff, don't know how I lived without it. The only times you need wipers are snow (as above) and when it's just misting and the rain does have the mass to get blown up and off the windshield.

'rain x' was simply an example. i'd really like to be able to search for two or three words in succession, for example 'power steering failure', or something like that. the current set up will search the three keywords power, steering and failure bringing up many more threads than i want. i've had this happen tons of times where i get frustrated by not being able to search multiple words in succession.

btw. rain x is great. i've always done it on my vehicles... just was searching to make sure that the fancy LX windshield didn't have some crazy coating on it that would be destroyed by the rain x, or something like that.

thanks for the input on the search. just wanted to make sure i wasn't missing something.

use quotes around a specific phrase, just be prepared for no results if you are too specific

rain windshield

that might get the results you want...SEARCH requires 3+ characters, since searching for "x" would result in 1000's of results and kill the servers in the process.

So is there no way to search for a phrase? I tried "floor jack" and I get all threads that have the word floor and the word jack somewhere in the thread. I've also tried (floor jack) and other permutations. No way to do it?

Cheers.

Here is what I am putting in. Are you talking about using the Google Search at the top? I guess that would work but then you couldn't search by forum or know which forum the post is from.

I have this problem too.

Woody,

This problem is driving me nuts too. Putting quotes around the keywords doesn't work. If I search for "muffler bearing" in Advanced Search, I'll get all the posts with either "muffler" or "bearing" in them. I've tried it in IE (Windows) and Safari and I get the same results either way.

This seems like a serious flaw in the seach facility. On another forum I participate in, the Advanced Search feature has a box where you can enter your keywords, then a set of radio buttons underneath labeled All Words, Any Words, and Phrase. To me this seems like the most intuitive way to do it. If I enter Muffler Bearing and select the Phrase radio button, I'll only find posts containing the exact phrase "muffler bearing" and no others.

Any chance of upgrading the board's software to add a similar feature? Other than that one problem, 'mud rocks.

thanks,
Bruce
