I don't get it. It looks fine, what's it too small for? It won't go on a 3/8" winch rope? More explanation please.

I tried

Unless I grease the rope I dont see it going on. I can get it started but it wont slide and it's so tight it bunches up and stops. Anyone have any pointers? ;)
It is Amsteel Blue 3/8" x 125' I bought it back in 2004. I'm going to take off about 15' from the hook side and I was going to put on a new sleeve while I was @ it.

You can't get it to work so you're calling the guy a scammer? Seems a bit harsh. Maybe you should call the company and see if they have a suggestion.

Your right

Just because the world is full of scams, I shouldn't jump to conclusions. I have sent an e-mail and I will follow up w/ a phone call. The stuff pictured on the site is not what was sent. The material received looked just like the ebay material same color same product. The ebay was $9.99 I paid $26.00 see the issue. :D I have did bussiness w/ O.K. Offroad prior and I like them, so I will follow up w/ a call tomorrow. I had read a prevous post of someone having the same problem, so I thought I would let everyone know,be cautious....

:rolleyes:BE CAUTIOUS IF YOU PURCHASE A WINCH-LINE PROTECTOR:rolleyes:

So your issue is with OK Offroad, not the ebay seller? I took it the other way.

For future reference, IIRC 1 3/16" is a good size to go over 3/8" line. Not so loose it wont spool past the fairlead but not so tight you cant move it.

Not Ebay or O.K. Offroad

My problem is w/ a mass produced product made in China, that's suppose to fit, but it don't. How many people need to shell out the cash to find out we have a problem. Eventually we will consume the material and the problem will go away. I guess I have donated my $26.00 dollars worth, who's next to purchase?
By the way I learned a lot from your Youtube vid's on winch lines. THANK YOU, THAT WAS WAHT I NEEDED TO KNOW (and you saved me some cash)

Nylon tubular webbing is commonly availiable in both 1" (what you seem to have) and 2" (both measured outside, across the flat) sizes, usually about 40 cents/foot for 1", and 70 cents/foot for 2". Comes in tons of colours. Try a climbing/outdoors (like REI) store for retail sales, they use it to make slings.
To figure out what size you need just remember the circumference of a circle is 3.1416 times the diameter, so for 3/8" line, 3.1416X.375= 1.17 inches. The actual inside width of the 1" tubing is probably in the order of 7/8" so that would allow a maximum circumference of 1.75inches or just over 1/2 inch diameter line. Don't forget that where your eye is spliced, the diameter of 3/8 line could exceed that (1/2") for the full length of the splice.
You'll probably find it easiest to pull on the sleeve if you can tie some light, small line to the end of the winchline, feed that through the sleeve, then put some tension on the inner lines. The sleeve should just glide on. If you're taking off 15 feet from the eye end, don't cut it all off, leave one or two of the 12 original strands ( unbraid the rest, and remove them), a whip of tape at the reduction to make a smooth transition and then you can use them to pull the line through the tube. Hope this description is clear enough (like mud, LOL)
If you need to lube the line to milk the tube on, please just use water, any other lubricants may damage the rope.

Good luck!

Glad the videos helped you save some coin.

Dont be mad at china. Someone had to order the webbing.

Not to many folks realize that some nylon or polyester tubular webbing works great as an inexpensive abrasion guard. IMO you overpaid for what you got on Ebay too. You can find 1" tubular webbing most places that sell climbing equipment for about $.30 per foot.

2" is a little large for 3/8 line. It bunches up at the fairlead. There are some bastard sizes out there, but you gotta look for them.

That's the same stuff you can get at REI in bulk. Pick the size and length you want and they cut it and price it. They also sell prepackaged lengths. Made many a dog leash and collar out of that.
