eBay SCAM: beware!! 1faststang97 (nezirmujkic@yahoo.com)

Wow.. this one was good.

I get plenty of pretty obvious spoof phishing emails from "ebay", but this one originated from a legit eBay auction for a really nice looking nordic blue 1982 Landcruiser. I sent a message to the seller via ebay message system. Then, mysteriously, the auction delisted. I then get an email from his yahoo email to my email telling me the car is still for sale with eBay Purchase Protection. All money will be held by eBay until I take delivery of vehicle and I am satisfied with the transaction. I need preapproval from ebay.

I get this email today, supposedly from ebay:

Anyways, I forwarded it to spoof@ebay.com, eventhough I already knew it was fake. It originated from e-bay@e-bayinvoice.org and requests $4,000 deposit payment by MoneyGram to a "Kevin White" in Los Angeles, CA 90064 (an eBay representative.. yeah right!)

Just to be sure, I called ebay to let them know that this guy is using his legitimate ebay account to initiate a phishing scam. They are aware, and they were the ones who pulled his auction off for suspicious activity. But, what was a little reassuring to me initially was that I exchanged a few emails with this dirtbag about his FJ40, and he knows enough about FJ40s to at least pass muster.. initially.

Buyer's Beware!!

82 scam

Here is the response he sent me:

Hi
Thank you for your interest in my 81 Land Cruiser. The car is located in Palm Beach FL. It has all the papers (complete). This was my son's car who passed away 6 months ago, it only brings me bad memories. I want this transaction to be smooth as I am caught in the middle of some very important events and I don't have much time at my disposal. The car is in perfect condition, no scratches, no special marks, no need for additional repairs what so ever, no leaks, rust free. It is stock original 1981 FJ40 with only 46,147 documented original miles. AC and factory PS. It has always been garaged and is the reason that the paint has not faded. The brakes cause this FJ40 to stop on a dime, no fading and are solid. The cooling system has no leaks and has never overheated. The transmission shifts effortlessly and is solid. There are no leaks anywhere on this cruser. The engine runs strong even at altitude and does not use or burn oil. I repeat myself, 46K documented miles. A great car ready to be yours. It has a clear title.
The price is $9,000 including shipping costs anywhere in the continental US. There are no other costs regarding this transaction. Regarding payment I am aware of the eBay's rules and we will use Vehicle Purchase Protection Program which will hold the payment until you receive the car. If you are interested please provide me the following informations necessary to make a decision:
-full name
-any negative feedback and if so .... for what reason .
If I receive the requested information you will be informed by eBay during the next hours with details about your purchase.

Thank you,
Nezir Mujkic

Be careful... it may not necessarily be the actual person that is the account owner... a year ago, by eBay and subsequently my Paypal account were hacked and the people completely wreaked havoc on my Paypal, eBay and bank account since it's tied to my paypal... thousands upon thousands of overdraft dollars.... the sad thing is i never have big transactions much over a few hundred dollars but my bank let the activity go for a few days and I was was the one to discover it when I couldn't use my debit card... I was over drafted many thousands of dollars.
They were using my eBay account to "buy it now" stuff from other accounts they had hacked. and subsequently trying to pull it from my bank account through paypal and into their account.... luckily I have no money in my bank, so they got nothng.
Also luckily I'm a huge eBayer and online banker so that's how i caught it so quickly... but others may never get on eBay so they may have no clue.
lessoned learned... never allow you ebay password to match your paypal password....
