Hey guys,

We are starting work on the farm and aside from the driveway work and assorted other projects, I want to get a barn structure up this year. I was looking at the usual PT post and trusses, but I really want something a little more rustic and have been looking at some post and beam options. I am working on plans right now and I hope to get some kind of cut sheet together soon, but I would like to talk to see if I could find some local mills that I could talk to about pricing.

Going to be looking for rough 6x6 posts as well as rough beams 4x10 and 6x10 to construct the bents from.

Anyone know of any places I might could call or have any experience. The property doesn't really have any good workable timber so a portable mill really isn't going to be of much use to me.

Thanks,

Matt

Bump for this...

Also, anyone know where I could get a 8x8 cedar post? Either one 12' or a pair of 6'? And some matching cedar 4x4's. Need to build a gate.

Matt , it took me alittle while but I think I found someone . His name is Mike , he's got what you're wanting I believe . Here's his number
1395 Tennessee 99, Lewisburg, TN 37091
(931) 364-3161

He's is actually in Chapel Hill about 2 or 3 miles from me .

Rocky, thanks. That is great especially since it's for the farm in Eagleville. I will try to give him a call tomorrow between meetings.

I talked to him today and he is going to see what they have around and give me a call back. I think it may work out pretty well. I may look around the place and if I have a couple of cedars that look big enough to make the post I am after I may cut them down and take them over to see if they can cut them down for me.

For the bigger stuff I will probably need to wait til they get up and running a little more. Sounded like they are just getting into it, so I may be able to get in on the ground floor.

Thanks again for the info.
