Your system of measurement “just a few switchbacks then it levels off” was foreign to me.
So loosely translated into English 3 more miles and it will be less steep than it is right now

Just another 100 yards and we would have been here, but we probably would have missed the group photo.

REGISTRANTS:
If you have not received a call from the KOA, expect one in the coming week/weeks. KOA has a very limited crew to work the list of registrants that we have sent to them., they are calling in the order of registration.

Please have patience and PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR VOICEMAIL IS SET UP AND NOT FULL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ANSWER A CALL FROM THE KOA. Please wait for their phone call first.

I am in contact with them and if they have any issues then I am able to follow up and verify that the information they have is correct. Sometimes the info from the JotForm registration was incorrectly input, check your MUD mailbox in case I have sent you a message.

Thank You!

Yeah, it’s fun and close. You were talking about Stoney, this last year it was pretty gnarly in the steep coming to the top. Big fat boulder field and a screaming wife. With my home built trailer, I didn’t enjoy it much. My welds held though.

Thinking coming over California Pass this year.

Also, hopefully will be spending more time at my land and will be better set up if anyone wants to pit stop.
Last year on the way to SAS we came in from the Lake City side and did Cinnamon Pass over to Hwy 550 and then down into Ouray and the KOA. All easy stuff. If you're towing a trailer again, be aware that there's a couple fairly tight switchbacks with ruts towards the inside of the turn going up Cinnamon. Nothing crazy but you may end up making a multipoint turn with a trailer. Maybe not though, you might be able to swing wide, hit the inside of the corner, and shoot wide coming out of it - the road isn't all that narrow. Either way it takes a bit of throttle (with a 2F anyway) to power up the ruts on the inside of the switchbacks. That section is pretty short so it's not a huge worry. From there you pop into Animas Forks ghost town and you can either do the gravel road to Silverton or take California & Corkscrew passes down to Hwy 550. Both of those passes are very easy.

Also, lots of camping (in FS campgrounds) on the beginning of Cinnamon.

On the way out last year we took cinnamon to get towards pool table road, partly to see cinnamon from the other direction and to find an old campsite from 2017 when I went through with my tundra.
I was amazed and how much more camping there was at the east end of cinnamon compared to 2017. Maybe it was because it was October and wet, but we had the road to ourselves as well as any campsites.

There's one big developed campground plus some other spots with "dispersed" camping along the way. Lots of it!

We were coming in from the east - well north of Creede/Pool Table and all that. Just about 60 hours of dirt with two overnights en route to Ouray. Saw maybe 6 vehicles the whole time. 🤫

I meant Cinnamon. I blame it on Autocorrect.

I've done Cinnamon a few times, in my 40 and like @Ditcherman in my tundra. I will be bringing my trailer again but trying to figure out how to get both rigs there. May tow the rig with the 40 and see if I can convince Heidi to drive the 62. We shall see. We have time.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

In celebration of our 10th Anniversary, we are putting out a call for photos of your favorite Solid-Axle Summit memories over the years. To thank and honor of all of you who have helped make SAS possible all these years, we will present a slide show one evening during SAS10. Please share your favorite memories with us, so we can all take a trip down memory lane together on the big screen.

Since most of you will be uploading from phones, we wanted to make this as easy as possible for you. Below are nine year-specific Dropbox links. Simply click on the appropriate link using your device of choice, and send those memories!

Getting some good stuff, folks. Keep 'em coming.

Good luck!

I just realized that your shop is 15 minutes from my house. What are you bringing to SAS? Are you driving or trailering?
Come say hi or come to the next Rising Sun meeting. We host in the winter months. It’s next Wednesday

I am driving my 97 Lx450 with a little offroad camp trailer behind it. Have a lot to do but the deadline is before Cruise Moab.

On my list for it is:
-New automatic transmission - not the a343 or 442, something new
-4.88’s and some RCV’s (pretty sure my left front birf is broken at the moment)
-Taking the turbocharger from stage 1 to 2 should net around ~500hp/600ftlbs at the crank a nice bump from the ~300/400 it’s at right now
-better dog barrier
-and I’m sure some other stuff

Also I know there’s a few friends with trucks we’ve built going to SAS like Pua’a the 5580 and a few other turbo 80’s

At the risk of the Podcasters jinx @POTATO LAUNCHER is coming on the Classic Land Cruisers Podcast at the end of February to calm down a nervous and scared first timer to SAS 10

Speaking of 400k… I did the math the other day and my 80 is very likely to crest 400k on this SAS trip which is cool because it hit 300k on the way home from #3.
Nice! The last of the OG drivetrain is getting replaced this year. Rear diff and Transmission have gone the full distance
