BLUERIBBON COALITION ACTION ALERT!

Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,

Santa Fe National Forest Releases Proposed Action for Travel Management

The Santa Fe National Forest will be conducting thirteen public meetings during July and August regarding their Proposed Action (PA) for Managing Motorized Travel. The development of the Proposed Action or "scoping phase" is the start of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process.

The Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement for the Proposed Action was published in the Federal Register on July 17, 2008. This initiates the 45-day public comment period that will run from July 18 through September 2, 2008.

Your comments will contribute to a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS), expected within the next 8-12 months. A second opportunity to comment will follow release of the DEIS, with the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) and decision expected for release in 2009. Once the decision is made, maps will be developed and routes will be signed.

The Notice of Intent and Santa Fe National Forest's Proposed Action, along with maps, can be found on the Forest website: http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/sfe/travelmgt/index.html. They will also be available at Ranger Stations and local libraries.
