I recently bought an inexpensive 5 gal. blaster from northern tool to do some clean-up work on my 77-40. By the time I finished blasting the sill above the rear bumper my ceramic tip/nozzle was completely gone. The next time i tried to run the blaster, it went through another tip in less that 20 sec. Pressure too high?? Media too coarse?? (I'm using black diamond media) Any advice??
Thanks,
Wes

what is your psi set at? Plus try to find or get a titanium tip. Ceramic tips are typically used with high psi powerwashers.

I've used ceramic tips on all my sandblasters. Never been a problem. Maybe the one you got is not up to par with normal blaster tips.

I don't like the black grit. I like 100% recycled glass. Much easier to spray.

The blaster has a pressure regulator on it. I was running it at about 60lbs. Where can i find the recycled glass media?

Wes

Must be a problem with the tip itself, that's not enough pressure to do any damage. I run mine at 110 psi and a tip will last a few days with constant use. If I blasted at 60, it'd take me forever...

I bought my 100% recycled glass at a home building store. My local Timbermart had it.

try to reclaim some of it. Put down a tarp or something. Much of it lands on the ground around you, so at least if a clean dry tarp is there you sweep it up and re-use it.

I wasted 17 bags doing my 4 doors and tail gates. UUUGHH 11 bucks a bag. All gone.

sandblasting problems

Thanks Brown Bear.
Yeah a tarp or a kiddie pool even works well. I'll try some of the recycled glass along with new tips to see if that helps.

big equipment

I am not used to the "toy" blasters you and brown bear speak of. The tips I use are tungsten carbide because the compressor is a 250 cu. ingersol rand.

And you better hang on when in action.
more frame action.webp

I actually did that once. We were doing a vertical tank farm.
I "teed" our 375 and 250 together to make the blasting quicker.

I think I blew 4 whips that day(short piece of hose 2'-5' connected to the larger hose) and ended up have popeye forearm syndrome:mad:
