Just throwing some questions.

Current Registration or Green Stickered.

Current Liability Insurance

Require a spare on the vehicle or is on the tow rig acceptable?

A self recovery device such as:
highlift type jack
Winch
Tow Strap

Spare has to be within 2" diameter of the other tires?

Cab or hard top suitable instead of a roll bar?

Other items to consider, collection devise for fluids?

Should there also be something that states we will accept other specific clubs Tech sign off?

An Example would be if Marlin signs off on someones rig, IMHO no need for us to recheck it a week later.

Toys-4-Fun, where Marlin would check other rigs, is not having a tech inspection like in the past. They are doing a very quick lookover and that's it. They were talking about trying to get all of the rigs completed in about an hour. At least that is what they talked about at out last meeting.

How about " On approval of CVC club officers "

It is my opinion and mine only, that a tech inspection isn't really needed. I understand there is good behind them, but unless the rules are strictly enforced, what good are they. Are we really going to tell somebody that their rig doesn't pass and therefore they can't go on any runs? I for one will not.

IMO, we should have a day where we all get together and if you have a question about something, you can ask the opinion of others or you can even have Jerome inspect it if you want. During that day, each person can go over their rig tightening things like knuckle studs and u-bolts. People will learn more from doing things like that then anything. That's just my .02.

or ..... we already have a list of whos rig s got inspected at this last years event... why not incorporate new members to be inspected... and any one who has already been that modifies there rig (running gear ,soa ...you know major componant change...get safty check on that item you know we just want are member s to be as safe as possible...

I agree with Hottrod81's combined with Hudyhue's theory.

Many of us have built rigs and we wheel them and know what they are. I can pick out more items that need attention on my rig than anybody can.

I "think" an inspection of some sort would be good for new members. Maybe something as simple as what Hottrod81 suggested. Look at thier rig, recomend what they need to address and then go wheeling.

Maybe someone does not know thier steering box is loose or that it is not common for an FJ40 to wonder down the road because the joints are work out or to occationally tighten your steering arm knuckle studs, etc.

The vast knowledge we have in the club could really help a new member out.

stupid question: WHEN IS THE INSPECTION?

Well for me Iam not a member but when I go up to the mountains or anywhere outside the city I always do a safety check on my rig. I used to drive a jeep that would break every trip i went on so Iam used to doing safety checks. I think its a good idea to check new members rigs before they go up with you guys to see if you see any weak spots. The last thing we want is to be on the side of the trail or road for hours trying to fix something or modifying it when all it needed in the begining is to tighten a bolt and all of it would have gone away.

so iam for saftey checks for new members but then again Iam not a member so Iam just throwing my opionion out there.

my rig!

If for no other reason: annual inspections are necessary to see what kind of wear or damage has occured from the previous season. (hopefully no one waits that long to check their rig)
And more than one set of eyes is always a good thing.

Well after last years check I think everyone should agree an annual check is a good idea. Almost every rig had at least one thing that needed to be addressed. Just about every rig had loose front wheel bearings.:wrench:

yea and some had goten pulled thru.... mmm

09 Tech Inspection

The date for this years safety and tech inspection will be Saturday March 14 from 10am to 2pm. We will have a potluck bar-b-que and the club will provide burgers and hotdogs. Location and directions will be posted in the private section along with a menu sign-up sheet.

Get ready :wrench::wrench::wrench: and we'll see you there!..............Jerome
