I'm going up to the top of Saddleback mtn (otherwise known as Santiago Peak) tomorrow morning. The plan is to go up the Silverado Canyon side and come down through Blue Jay Campground to the 74 (Ortega Canyon Hwy). The plan is to be back on pavement by noon.

If anyone wants to join me I will be at the Silverado Canyon gate at 8:00, air down, depart from the gate @ 8:15 sharp.

This is an easy run, difficulty of 2 with a few side trips to 3, but only if you want to. Stock vehicles are no problem.

Directions to the silverado Canyon gate are as follows

55 fwy, exit Chapman Ave in Orange
Drive east on Chapman Ave which becomes Santiago Canyon Rd.
Turn left onto Silverado Canyon Rd (about a mile past the Irvine Lake exit)
The gate is 5 or 6 miles up the canyon.

Gates were open, we got to the top about 10:00 and it was about 80°. Very pleasent. A guy from Justruns met us and showed me a trail I never knew about. It cuts across from the silverwood Creek road across the ridge and dumps you back out at the divide. It was a pretty chalenging little side trail. I'd give it a 3. Kinda reminded me of some of the accents you go up on 2N17X. Had lunch in Cariso on the 74 at noon and headed for home. Sorry no pics this time out.
