Rust consult - Is this BJ42 too far gone?

If your from AZ that is not minimal rust. Canada was not kind to the 40 series LC. The link to more photos shows diamond plate floors and spots on the body more than surface rust. Just the fact the H55F has a 60 series top cover would bother me.

Just my .02

Yeah at quick glance I thought those were those faux diamond plate floor mats. I pretty much expect any 40 series for $15K and under to have rust. One mans minimal rust is another's rust bucket. I'm leery of Canada and the east coast the same, I would definitely need more pictures and was just going by the "minimal rust" in first description.

Why would a 60 series H55F cover bother you?

The location of the shifter is too far back. Would have to adjust the transmission shift can at the least. Was playing around with shifters last summer on my non operating 79 FJ40. Even with the shift can in the correct 40 series transmission it still too far back and to far to the left. There are a couple reason why this is. My H55F from a RHD BJ42 has a bend to the right but once that is straightened out will be just like a LHD FJ40 with a four speed. With a 60 once straighten to have correct clearance would remind me of two ton plus work trucks I drove in the seventies where the shifter were almoat straight up.

Thought at first those were faux floor mats but took a close look when I seen they were under the front seats.

I’d get some more info on the one in Kamloops. Your dollar to our peso is too good to be true. Same owner 30 years. Lots of spares. Allegedly good frame and aluminum body.

When dd a 40 series(or any series), the cost of fueling it should never be a consideration. If the cost of feeding it is an issue, that is a big red flag

Aesthetically, the diamond plate does not bother me too much on the Cali car. I know it decreases the originality and therefore, value of the vehicle, but should it be a deal breaker? My goal is to have a solid DD that'll last for years, I don't want or need a show car. Why is everyone so turned off by it?

I live in AZ and that is reason enough to hate diamond plate. Any used vehicle I buy where a car has been is as big a deal and anything else. Besides just rust have seen vehicles that were registered in a location where major flooding is a red flag. These are on newer vehicles. On the old ones is all about rust. Have some in my collection will never do anything with solely because it needs the rear sill replaced. Non of mine are diesels and happy with petrol models I have plenty of replacement parts.
