Hello all. I was wondering if anyone can help out with a minor set back I came across while swapping out my oil seal on my rear extension housing from my transfer case. After dissassembling the damn thing in order to get to the oil seal, I noticed that while pulling the oil pump plate off of the rear shaft, I had a weird looking broken snap ring that was attached to the Rear Output Shaft before. Actually there are 2 of them, but only one was broken. The weird thing about it is that these odd looking snap rings are not pictured in the FSM.:frown: Below I have enclosed some pics for you guys to see what I am talking about. I was wondering if anyone new the parts # for these rings (hence the title of the thread)? I actually ordered some that I want to confirm are the correct rings. My local dealer told me that his database was telling him that there were only 6 in the entire US, so I ordered 5 :). The bad part about it is that I won't get them 'till Thursday (so I can't see if they are the correct ones). The part # for these are : 36155A. Can anyone confirm these are the right ones? Again here are the pics so everyone knows what I am talking about. Thanks inadvance....... Robert Muniz

Pic 1 shows the location of where the broken ring is supposed to be, and the one that is still attached to the shaft:

Pic 2 shows the print out from my local dealer and the parts # for the ones ordered, are these it?

Pic 3 is a pic of the FSM. It does not show these "odd" snap rings anywhere. I also point out where on the rear output shaft these are located:

They are there, you are just missing them due to the odd way Mr. T lays out the parts diagrams.

The key part to notice is that both diagrams mention the speedo drive gear. You have to match up both diagrams based on parts, and you'll see how it goes.

Ebagg, thanks for the input, but those are not them. Those snap rings you pointed out are 2 of the 3 that you have to pull off in order to disassemble the rear shaft from the housing.

Sorry, you're right. I misread what you were pointing to.

There's a snap ring just to the left of the Center Diff Control Couping Assembly (second diagram). Could that be one of your mysterious snap rings?

No problem, thanks for helping. The snap ring that you mentioned above is the 1st of 3 that you pull off. So no it is not one. The very last one on the right next to the bearing was not mentioned because I didn't pull that one off, not necessary to pull shaft from rear housing, just to pull out bearing once you pull the shaft out.

Well, today I picked up my dad's FSM for his '97 and I looked at the Transfer case rear extension housing section and noticed that his did have the 2 "odd" rings in the tear down picture provided on the FSM. I guess FSMs differ year by year, even if it is slightly. Here is a pic of the 2 "odd" snap rings. They are actually called Seal Rings that as mentioned go on the Rear Output Shaft. I still desperatly need a part # for them. Cdan and Beno, are the being held down with some kryptinite? '97 FSM pic:
