RPM right after startup?

Searched but could not find anything on this.

We just bought a 2010 FJ Cruiser. I've noticed that the idle speed is very fast right after the engine is started. It seems to be racing, like more than just a fast idle. Anyone else notice this with their FJ? And anyone have a spec on what the idle RPM should be right after startup?

Mine's always running above 1000 for the first few minutes, if I let it sit and idle. I think the ECU is detecting low voltage across the battery and ramps up the RPMs for the alternator. I have a fridge running in mine, so there is always a draw on my battery after sitting.

That said, even if you don't have accessories running, I think the default is that the engine runs faster on startup. After you have been running and driving a while the RPMs should be around 700 at idle.

I had a chance to check the idle RPM after a cold start this morning and right after starting it is 1800 RPM. Then, it slowly declines over the next several seconds (maybe 10 seconds) to about 1400 RPM. Since I'm not driving the car on a regular basis I don't know what the normal idle RPM is after warmup but I'll try to check that over the next couple of days.

My '07 fast idles at 1250 rpm for a long time after a cold start and will eventually idle down to 700-750 rpm in neutral and about 550 rpm in drive when hot. I've never checked what the initial rpm spike is on startup but within several seconds it settles down to 1250 rpm. Even my service manager said my FJ idles faster and for a longer period of time as compared to others. He offered no solutions or concerns. During the first minute or so during fast idle, at one point, the fast idle speed will noticeable increase for several seconds and then come down again to 1250. Go figure.

650-750 rpm according to the FSM. I looked for a cold idle spec but could not find one. Typically on most Toyota gasoline engines, it is 1200-1300 rpm. 1800 is too fast.

Thanks for checking the FSM. I need to purchase a FSM for this FJ.

My 2010 is within the normal range at start up so I would have the dealer check it since it's under waranty.
