Okay, fresh rebuild, 89 5.0 motor with ford motorsports harness. Larger heads/valves and a big cam. The only thing that is not hooked up right now is the charcoal cannister. Timing is approximate, but should be close enough to get it running..

Everything is new except the injectors (19 lb) and the fuel press regulator.

I have not verified the fuel PSI, but I am going to do that next. Along with verifying that there are no Vac leaks..

It won't start without pumping or flooring the pedal. Then when it does start, it barely runs and won't idle.

Ideas??

Sounds to me like you're on the right track. I've played with adjustable fuel regulators on injected BMW's in the past. When they were set too rich they would barely start, and idled terrible. What's the motor in? I've been toying with the idea of building a 347 for my mustang, and swapping the perfect running stock carbed 85 roller motor in my fj40 with a marks adapter.

Mace Have you tryed burping(bleeding) the fuel system? Maybe air creating havic. Wild guess.
That is another possibility.. unfortunately I do not have a easy way of doing that. I never got the schrader valve..

a couple o' ideas

WOT shuts off the injectors...............called 'flood mode'

Is it pouring black smoke when it does start?

to tell If the pressure regulator is bad, pull the vacuum hose off and cycle the key on & off a couple 'o times.........if gas comes outta there it's toast.........

It does not pour out black smoke. I think it is more a not enough fuel instead of too much fuel issue..

Thanks for the regulator check!!

WOT shutts off the injectors??? What exactly does that mean?

I didn't even realize what I was saying

I'm guessing that he meant to tell me, shuts off the injectors in 'start mode'

I guess you wouldn't want them shutting off at WOT while driving

Kinda against the grain ;)

Is bleeding the fuel line that important? I always thought the air would easily escape into the cylinders...

Found a 3/8" vac feed line disconnected in the underside rear portion of the intake....

F'n ferds...

Still gonna try to get the injectors repaired tho..

I had my Chevy injectors cleaned & tested at a Carquest Auto Parts store that had a machine shop.............don't remember what it cost, it was a while ago

Oh and you have to use them right away 'cause what ever they use to clean them has NO shelf life and will screw 'em up fast

BTW...............here's my last 5.0 project...............long gone now, but I know the guy who still has it and it's even better now................

another article is coming out in Hemming Muscle Machines sometime in '08

I can't wait to get into this one for my 60...........right now it's a bare block on a stand

Place in town wanted $60 per injector to "rebuild" them..

So, I am gonna get a ultrasonic cleaner and do it myself..
