I noticed this morning that my little 6-month old Rottie has a bald patch over her eye. I'd really like a good idea of what is causing it (mange, ringworm, etc?) before I take her into the vet.

Thanks

Given age of dog and location of lesion.... my money would be on Demodex.... a type of mange seen in puppies usually between 4 to 5 mos and a year of age..... demodex is NOT contagious. A skin scraping with mite identification under a microscope is necessary for diagnosis. Of course, it could be many other things as well....

Let me know what they find :) Is that a spot on the leg as well (right foreleg)? Looks like it in your pic. If so... then demodex is almost certain. Wish you could've seen this demodectic dog that came into the office yesterday - WOW!! Good luck

That's not, actually. I noticed that in the picture too, and went back to make sure. I emailed the photos to a vet friend in the States and she said it could be bacterial or hormonal as well. Her advice was to put triple antibiotic ointment on it and see what happens.
