I thought I remember seeing a cargo box that opened from the back. Could anyone lead me in the right direction with brand name, etc.?

I think this kind of box would be awesome because I could stand on the tailgate to access supplies rather than on the side of the car for those boxes that open from the side.

Thanks,

Phil

Packasport.

I think the only way you will get long and low will be with a side loader. The tires or interior door sill are great places to stand to access the stuff from the side.

You'd be better off with Thule or Yakima than a Sears rack.

I have a Thule Weekender that has been used on our 95' Land Cruiser and 09' Honda Pilot. It's fairly slim. You may be lucky and find one for sale. Thule no longer makes this model. It should fit in your garage if you have tall garage door.

Check my old posts and pics in posts #7-9

been looking at thule stuff on kijiji for weeks and have seen everything out there. the long ones almost always open sideways. the shorter/boxier/suitcase looking ones typically open to the back.

try looking at Thule Karrite on your local adds. if you're cool with used. but yeah, thule and yakima are the best one's out there, but for new you pay huge bucks (i think they're overrated) so i grab used ones that get the job done.

That makes sense.

You know whatever you needed would be at the front of an end loader. :grinpimp:

Kind of like a top load duffel bag, you always have to dump everything to find what you want.

The Packasports are rear opening. They are also glass instead of plastic. They are very nice boxes that can easily be color matched to your rig. The down side is $$. New they were $700-$1,200.

this is precisely why i think all these roof boxes are so overrated. they typically hold junk for camping like chairs, sleeping bags, and life jackets. any heavy stuff goes in the trunk/bed anyway. can't think of any hugely valuable items worth spending a grand to hold them in, but that's just me.

just picked up an old karrite thule rear opening box 54"x36"x14" tall, 80 bucks, and easily bolts on to the load bars.
