Okay I've been searching for a while and my eyes are beginning to roll back in my head. I'm trying to find out what some others have done to repair their roof rust damage. I only have one spot that is going to cause problems but would like to keep the roof since it's only got this one bad spot. I haven't taken down the headliner yet so I don't know how deep it goes but I'm assuming it goes all the way through. So the big issue is the rain gutter. I figure that I can fix the roof corner with a little luck. Ideas and pics of builds / fixes would be great.
...you would be wise to pull your headliner in order to better assess any further hidden roof rot. I have 3 55 roofs(one not attached to a body) in various states. You would be surprised how a seemingly fine roof exterior is not so flawless once the headliner comes down. As far as repair is concerned - would appear the best route to go is to cut out the rust and weld new metal in. You might be able to find a good section of drip rail and corner roof material from a fellow pig owner with a parts rig.. Once that rust sets into the drip rail seam, it is not a pretty undertaking to fix....not to mention the host of other problems that surface due to the infiltration of water into your pillars etc....On the bright side - in that your pig has come from Arizona, you should be in a much better state than most. Post this up in the 55 section if you have not already.
