Has anyone installed a roof rack themselves? Buying one for Christmas and called to order it and the sales rep said (to my wife) it was a tough install attached $200 to the price installed. Just wondering. Thanks in advance.

A friend of mine bought one on e-bay. He is handicapped and in a wheel chair, when he went to pick it up and the guy he bought it from put it on his fj. It took him about twenty minutes. The holes and bolts are already there I believe. If not make sure you get the bolts, I know for a fact that the holes are there.

If you are talking about the stock rack, it's SUPER easy to install. Just unclip the covers where it attaches, pull the existing bolts out (there are bolts there, but they are too short for the rack) place the rack in position, put some sealant on the new longer bolts, and install. Presto!

That's what I thought. Sounded like a take advantage of the little lady game. I knew it couldn't be hard. Wanted to check here to make sure. thanks Rick

Piece of cake, your beer won't even get warm. Have fun....

On this subject, I think it would be easy to fit your own home made rack up there. A full one that is. Make the rack and then tack weld the 6 'feet' on just one side, just enough to hold it, set it down on the landing pads on the roof, the feet will adjust to the angles needed to fit flat on those areas, take it back off and weld the feet on proper.

Course, you have to have time and a welder and torch :D
