Dave, there were some incredible Highs and Lows to yesterday’s trip. The good news first....we are enjoying breakfast in Issaquah Wa at a local joint. We will be catching a 1:30 flight home (bad news) unfortunately. Also, have all the paperwork done via customs and the 61 is ready to be titled once she gets back to Comal County TX. And I am optimistic I can save this old girls vanity. She’s rusted but I’ve seen much worse bodies resurrected. And the greatest part of this trip is the scenary. I am blown away with the beauty here in the PNW. And we capped the day off with a beer at the Klause (@Kleatus)residence. So the bad news...our trip has been cut short due to mechanical (engine) issues. I had a back up plan but expected brakes, tires or some other type of issue to cause us not to make it home. Never expected a low mileage “great running” 12HT to stop us in our tracks.

Hope you can work this out. We are a tight knit community where reputation is everything. I hope your dialogue gets both parties at peace. I trust they will. Take in the beauty in the meantime. It is paradise in many ways.

I'm eagerly awaiting what the wife's text is going to say when she gets home and looks in the driveway. "I swear officer, it's not mine - I'm just holding it for a guy!"

Good to meet you guys, even under unfortunate circumstance.

Sorry to hear. did that truck come from radd cruisers?

It did. Pretty disappointed at this point. We had problems less than 10 miles from the shop. The temp gauge spiked and upon inspection I noticed the fluid aeriating in the reservoir. At first I was hopeful that since John was adding coolant into the truck at the shop that it was simply burping some air pockets. The temp came down as soon as we started rolling again and we continued down to Victoria. As soon as we got off the highway though temp started climbing and we pulled over. I checked under the hood and noticed coolant was leaking at the heater pipes that join the rear heater and front heater return.

We were in line for the black ball ferry at this point to get us back stateside over to Port Angeles on the Olympic peninsula. Seeing the leaking and not having a parts store at hand we started regretting our decision to lighten my tool bag for the trip. I left all my spare hoses and unions and clamps in Jimmy's barn.
I looked at it for a moment and came up with a bush fix. Neither of the hoses we had were long enough to loop the heater pipes and return so I used the heater valve as a makeshift union and bypassed that circuit. I pulled some clamps from the aftermarket catch can since those weren't critical. The rear heater feed is a smaller hose so I used a tire iron handle slid in and clamped shut. Not pretty but again all we had. We refilled the cooling system and crossed our fingers. At this point I was still a bit hopeful that the leak at the heater pipes was possibly sucking air and could have been the cause of the air being pushed into the reservoir.

You guys drove right past my place. I live at the bottom of the malahat at goldstream. Too bad I could have hooked you up with a hose and tools. Not that it would have helped much.

We got through the importation process and customs without too many problems and started hunting a parts store. We picked up a gallon of coolant, some extra hose and clamps and three more gallons of water. We topped off the cooling system once again with another full gallon of water and started for Seattle. When we fixed the hoses at the ferry line dock we had to fill the cooling system using two small bottles and multiple trips filling and refilling the truck. Idling on the ferry and the mile or so to the parts store pushed another gallon off coolant out.

A few miles down the road headed toward the Kingston ferry we ran into standstill traffic and I checked under the hood while we were sitting there bumper to bumper. The cooling system was low once again, the upper radiator hose rock hard. I loosened the radiator cap and let off the pressure... no water. As a last resort and since we were still standstill in traffic using my headlamp under the hood I pulled the upper thermo housing and the thermostat. No visible problems with it. We decided to leave it out and refilled the cooling system once again. Im sure the people sitting around us in traffic were getting a kick out of this since we were technically right in the middle of the road. The Kingston ferry was jammed up so we drove down to Bainbridge Island and crossed over into Seattle there.

That's awesome we actually camped at the goldstream campground Saturday night. Beautiful place.

We stopped by EBI to pick up some parts, unfortunately they were closed. Steve has always been a reliable rock sold source for parts we can't get our grubby hands on stateside.

Twassessen ferry headed over to the island. Unfortunately it was dark once we boarded so didn't get to see much.

I walk my dogs threw goldstream park there all the time.

You right steve at EBI is great to deal with. Only makes sense all Steve's are classy dudes!

I have spent a lot of money at radd about 7k on parts no complaints or issues with anything I bought. never had them work on anything of mine though. hopefully they make it right and everyone ends up happy.

Heres a picture to hold you over till Jim can get back at it @HoJo 61 ! View attachment 1557208
Looks good next to your 62 Klaus. Confirms my idea of replacing the current bumper with an old school ARB I’ve been holding on to. And thanks again for all your help. And to Dave @NookShneer for helping us network and connect with you. Y’all saved my ass on this deal :)

It sure compliments the '62 a lot better than that other thing in the drive..:grinpimp:.I should talk the wife into taking yours around the block, maybe that 12HT will be able to persuade her she needs to upgrade to a 60 series too! (I can dream right..?)

Too bad, really sorry to hear that. I certainly feel your pain as it's pretty similar to my last trip.
There are car hauler companies all over, should get it home for reasonable rate. Good luck
