I have been asked to build river rock drawer pulls for a dresser. First I will take the river rocks and drill halfway through them. Then what I want to do is sink a bolt in that would go through the drawer and be secure. Trying to figure out an adhesive that would stick the bolt to the rock strong enough to handle being pulled on constantly. I figure epoxy would do the trick, but don't know what kind or if there is anything better than epoxy for this application. Who knows about glue??

I like JB Weld for that kind of stuff. If you wanted to get fancy, you can even drill it and tap it.

You could epoxy (JB is an epoxy BTW) a nut or insert into the rock, the extra surface area should give you plenty of strength. You just have to figure out a way to drill big enough holes in small rocks. Or, you could use the insert as a spacer, just glue it to the back of the rock I guess. :D

Thanks

I don't know if I can drill small rocks without them cracking. I am going to get a diamond drill bit and go slow, almost like grinding out the hole. I think the end product would look real cool and would add a more personal touch to the dresser.

There might still be some companies making rock climbing holds from river rock, similar to these: Making Petrogrips "Petrogrips." The note about grinding the back flat is of interest, and would assist with using a drill press for making the holes. Unfortunately they don't divulge their countersink method.
