Hi everybody,

I was rocking in the snow tonight when a trouble occured with my reverse on my manual tranny.

Passing from 3rd low to Reverse I heard a (worrying) gear noise. Then, when I put the shifter in the reverse position I eard a noise (not loud at all) but the truck was not moving.

If I push the shifter further, I get in the reverse gear and the truck is back-uping. I get a very strange feeling from the shifter...

I have an appointment at the the dealer next wednesday for my 64 000 km (40 000 miles) maintenance. I will give them a call tomorow to tell them about the situation but if you have any advice for me on what to tell them it would be very appreciate.

Thank you for your help!

Sorry if it's a repost but did not get anything from the search engine. I would also like to apologize for my poor english (I'm a french speaking man from Quebec)

Were you completely stopped, or still moving forward when you shifted from 3'rd gear to reverse? You should be completed stopped when shifting into reverse.

I wonder if you damaged some of the teeth on your reverse idler gear.

On a related note, I recently had my throw-out bearing, clutch disc, and pressure plate replaced because of a defective throw-out bearing. I have 37,000 km on my vehicle.

Bonne chance!

I was already backing up when I put it in reverse (taking advantage of the "downslope" created by the end of my tracks (paths? tire paw? don't know how to say it but I'm sure you understand what I mean). Never had any tranny problem on my Subaru Loyal (365K Km and 385K km) and never on my Land Cruiser (330K KM and 465K KM). Original tranny, original clutch!

On the FJ the fork is a possibility. The reverse gear too...

The technician at the dealer tell me that it might be a synchro

Never heard of a reverse gear synch...

The tranny is off the truck, should have news this morning.

The dealer just called me. A brand new complete transmission has been ordered. Should have my truck back on thursday or fryday.

As soon as I know more, I'll write it here for your enjoyement
