Sweet! Have fun with that. If I may ask, what/where are those side view mirrors from? Well some as always!

I just went back to page 1 to see how this truck started. Wow!

What ever happened to the FJ55? The body looked pretty straight.

Is that square mirror head still available from Toyota?

Fj55 was sold off. It was in okay shape. Drip rail was damaged pretty bad.

The square mirrors are OEM and are still available from Toyota. Pretty spendy on those, but def cool...

Crazy, You got a part number(s) for those mirrors?

22 is correct for that part on Toyotapartszone. And that part number is for the head only. Arms are seperate. Its about 120-130 for the complete set.

Anyway, installed winch today. Went with a Warn VR 8000. It's low profile and mounted up nicely to the CCOT 8274 winch bumper. Had to modify the pass side gusset for fitment. Cut about 1.5 inches out of the top plate.

Really like this thread. You have done a fantastic job on the build. A lot like I will be doing with my 67 FJ40. I have a 76 FJ40 donor vehicle for the same reason - want the 2F, axles and the rest of the drive train. Steve

Put in a full 8 hours today!
I bought the vintage air AC system and started the install. Got about 70% done.

First step is to disconnect the battery.
image-1377686547.webp

Next is to remove the alt and bracket.
image-3619974564.webp

next is to mount the compressor and alt to the new bracket.
image-2516986313.webp

Then that goes in as an assembly using spacers and long bolts. All supplied in the kit.
image-479820487.webp

Battery follows the assembly. I had to move my battery tray back about 1 inch. I did this by simply turning the tray 180 and used different mounting holes.

Next comes the condenser and evaporator assembly. It uses 4 brackets that attach to the back side of the condenser then you drill holes and bolt in in place. You also need to cut out two areas where the hoses attach in the rad shroud. The evade mounts to a bracket that then mounts to the rad shroud using the lower two mounting bolts.

Next is to test fit the hose and cut to length.

Then we turn our attention to the inside of the cab. All of the plumbing will be coming through the location where the OEM blower motor mounts.

Here's the unit in its shrink wrap. It mounts up using supplied brackets.
I have also ran all the new water hoses and cut to length.
More to come...

More ac work... another 7 hours today!

The hardest part of the installation is becoming a contortion artist and drilling and installing the front brackets. What a royal pain in the ass that is.

All mounted up.

also getting the defrost hoses mounted with the adaptors is super fun!

Still need to fit the warm pull knob, needs to have a large hole drilled fit it to fit. Why the hell didn't they make the knobs fit the stock holes?
image-1296482967.webp

also got started on the mini truck power steering. Pulled the drivers side fender, removed the manual box the got started on the Neanderthalish work of removing the manual box bracket! This shows it just after removal. Getting the rivets out is great exercise.

All rivets out, cleaned up and spot painted.

whew, tomorrow is ac and ps finishing day, then it's on to finishing hard top, electrical stuff, tire carrier and all the new rubber needs to go on.

Looking good! do you have any pictures of the battery tray modification? having to drill the dash for this is LAME! Are you having to drill an extra hole? or just enlarge a current one?

I had to drill two holes under the dash where the two front mounts go. Those were a pita! The battery tray wasn't modified, just flipped around and re mounted. The bottom of the tray has holes in different places which gives a bit of movement back and forth.

Is the vintage unit strictly A/C or does it replace the heater unit as well?

It is both AC and heat. And the heat is much improved over the stock unit.

Well, my garage has two inches of water in it preventing me from working on the cruiser today.
I got all the parts up off the floor or moved into the house (wife loves that).

This is a major rain event... Also getting 50mph wind gusts!!! Good times!!

New cluster installed with mileage zeroed out, and new Tuffy stereo center console with mount from CCOT.
