So i wake up this morning to start working on the old (new to me) cruiser I dubbed "SQUANTO".. 1st mission was to replace belts and sparks and cap and fuel filter maybe even start replacing hose lines... so i fire squanto up and BOOM!!... rubber fuel line breaks on me and fuel is flying out everywhere just soaking my engine and covering my driveway... ( i dont think neighbors are too happy waking up to the smell of fuel instead of their normal coffee..haha..) Anyways since im new to this site and very new to the LC world (yet alone a 2nd vehicle to have fun with and work on) i need some help here if anyone careS to fire off... since i dont have the owners manual and i want to replace all hoses that i can replace myself.. i just dont know where to begin..... which hoses to replace, what different sizes in diameter, how much length of what to go get so i can replace them myself.... etc etc etc.. any and every info would be greatly appreciated.. thanks all

Run a quick search for FSM (Factory Service Manual). You should find links to download what you need. The number is buried somewhere in here for Toyota USA as well, all three manuals (body/chassis, engine, and emissions) are still available from them.

One option (my personal preference) is to call CDan or Beano at American Toyota and introduce yourself. Then explain that you want to replace all of the fuel and coolant hoses on your cruiser. They'll sell you the OEM parts at a fair price, and because they are both serious cruiserheads, they'll work super hard to ensure you get all the stuff you need. I suggest you also replace the thermostate at the same time. (do a search on the upper o ring.)

I'd ditch the original clamps if they're too bent, NAPA sells clamps without the screw serrations, smooth sides so they don't shred your hoses. Water based lubricant really helps getting the hoses on.

oh yeah i forgot to mention.. its a 89 FJ62

Remind me, where is there rubber fuel line in a 62 engine bay? I remember them as all hard lines, but it's been a while since I've looked.

Even with the discount you get at American Toyota, the heater hoses will cost big bucks. I replaced mine with Green Stripe heater hose from Evco House of Hose:

Red Heater Hose And Green Stripe Heater Hose

The larger size heater hose is 5/8 and the smaller is 1/2.

For clamps, I used these crimp on clamps from McMaster-Carr

52545K74 for the 1/2 inch and
52545K76 for the 5/8 inch.
6541K69 is the crimper.

There are just a couple of hoses that make weird bends where OEM works better, but I discovered that if you experiment with the length, you can even make the straight hose do some radical bends. I think it works with green stripe hose because the sidewalls are so thick.
