I am trying to get a set of lexus chrome LX470 wheels powdercoated. The problem is that the powdercoaters dont want to powder coat the wheels because they said something chrome not being completely removable. Is this true? Has anybody stripped chrome off completely to get a wheel powdercoated? How has the powder coat held up? Is there some kind of solution that I could buy at a local hardware store that I can use to remove the chrome myself?

I did a lot of research when I was doing a set of 60 wheels white for my 40.
I have been restoring, painting, even some powder coating for over 25 years but to this day the only way to be sure it will work is to start from scratch. i.e. Have the chrome and nickle stripped off the same way it was put on.....electronically.
That being said.......
On my 60/40 wheels I just did I did not have it stripped.....shop wanted $25 a wheel to do it.....so I got out the roloc disc and went to scuffing....all the chrome was still in good shape, no flaking and almost no surface rust. I then decided to paint instead of powder coating....much easier to touch up.
I have powder coated some chrome oil pans, valve covers, breathers before....without stripping it all......just blasted them to get some bite then coated them.....but I was using a black wrinkle finish powder so the finish was somewhat hidden.

Don't know if that info helps but.....I was bored at work anyway :grinpimp:
