Reinforce air suspension in a '100

Not sure where you live, but in the US, the active susupension is only available on the LX.

Well, the only way to reinforce the suspension is to replace the coils and tortion bars with stiffer units.

The coils and tortion bars on active suspension units are softer than those on normally suspended units (i.e. regular Land Cruisers in the USA) so you can replace them with those.

For even more reinforcement, you can move up to OME units. Keep in mind, however, the stiffer the spring you go to, the higher the ride heigth will be. Even with the normal Land Cruiser springs, you will lose the "low" setting on your ride heigth.

Maybe a little more information on your application would help too. Is it for a winch/bar combo or what?

I have replaced the torsion bars on my AHC equipped LC with thicker Old Man Emu torsion bars.. you can still lower the vehicle but it takes a little longer to reach the lowest point and it acts weird when you lift it back up (jumps into normal position rather than ease up).. I don't think that is a problem since I very rarely need to lower the LC.. I'm planning on replacing the rear coils with OME ones soon.. :)

I am not familiar with the AHC system but normally stiffer spring need stronger rebound and less bump valving to maintain good control. If you use stiffer spring and stock shock it might cause the suspension to ride harser. This might not be a prolblem if the AHC also able to adapt their damping characteristic.

The way 4Wheeler lift their TraiLex are by fooling the sensor reading and extending the shock. They do it by welding 3" extension below stock shock.

I wonder which rebound/compression valve changes are made with the 4 position shock settings on LX470's.

Everybody with LC's say the OME Torsion Bar and shock upgrade is great. Can anybody comment about the OME Torsion bar and stock LX470 shock combination? That could include you too, Siglo, since that is what you are running.

If you are talking about an unladen vehicle, you are correct.

But if you are talking about a vehicle with the added weight of a bullbar, winch, sliders, and rear bumper and tire carrier, the extra weight will wear out the active suspension faster if you do not replace the springs with the stiffer ones.

With all the weight, the stiffer springs will allow the vehicle to maintain a ride close to stock.

@hoser

I haven't noticed a huge improvement after installing the OEM t-bars.. The 4 shock settings seems unaffected to me.. the extra comfort settings might have become a little stiffer.. but I can't really judge as I rarely used that setting.. in the normal setting the LC seems to handle better on corners especially at higher speeds.. the vehicle's front end reacts better after hitting a bump or a hole.. when braking, the front still dives a little but better than when I had the bull bar installed with the OEM t-bars still there.. same thing applies I guess for the other 2 sport settings..

The AHC still reacts to the position of the car on the ground.. it lifts the back end and lowers them front end when climbing etc.. the vehicle is leveled after loading the cargo area just the same.. I've traveled from Kuwait to Bahrain and back (about 1000KM) with a considerably heavy load right after I've had the AHC adjusted.. the LC is still as comfortable on the highway..

I was thinking that after I install the OE rear springs the AHC might act funny when trying to level the loaded vehicle.. especially since I will be installing a rear bumper, tire carrier and long ranger combo sub tank.. will let you guys know how that went..

Thanks

Thank's for your interest. (and sorry for my bad english)

I'm living in Sapin, and here de LC HDJ 100 always takes the active suspension.
Now i want instal a front TJM bull bar, and i think it's necessary to reinforce the front suspensión with a new torsion bars. The stock bars are very soft.
The rear sprigs, for max. load i think is necessary replace for a stronger ones too.
I know in Spain a factory who can make ones like the stok, but with hevy thread.

For the torsion bars i can see you prefer Old Man Emu. it's ok?

I was thinking in Ironman, you know it?

When i finish all the process, i tell you the result.

I only wanted to know if somebody has modified this kind of suspension, and the lived experience.

Thank you very much

Siglo, any update with the new rear springs? You keep mentioning OE springs. Do you mean Original Equipment or OME (Old Man Emu)?

@hoser

I meant OME.. sorry for the confusion..

I called the dealer yesterday.. supposedly, the rear bumper, tire carrier, tank etc are at the port.. once he clears it out of customs etc he'll let me know.. once all that stuff is installed OME heavy duty real coils will go in.. right now the rear suspension is stock..

Jordi, Bienvenidos! Me encanta Espana.

I have the TJM T3 Bar, and it's really not that heavy. I don't have a winch, but it really did not affect the front end all that much. After you remove the bumper cover and bumper reenforcement bars, you're not adding that much weight. Maybe the HDJ is different from the UZJ, but that's my take.

Anyway, where in Spain are you? I spent about 6 weeks in Madrid while I was in college and really loved the city.

Hola amigo¡¡¡¡

I'm living in Tarragona, do you know? Is a town very near from Barcelona.

Yesterday I mounted the torsion bars "Ironman" in my HDJ 100. The change has been very satisfactory. The car reacts of forms very much stable, perfect.
Now I am going to try to change the stok springs by OME 860. Already I will tell you.
Regards
